In Burundi, the 14 years of civil war and continuing HIV-AIDS, has left more than 823,000 orphans, 20,000 of whom are currently living on the streets, intensifying a cycle of poverty, violence and hopelessness. The number of orphans due to war and AIDS in Burundi is estimated to be 11% of its population.
To help change the lives of the orphans and street children, JRMD/YRWD is building an orphanage, a school, and a community center (Imuhira Iwacu Village/In Our Home Village), in Burundi, Cibitoke Province, Buganda Commune, at Ruhagarika. The orphanage will accommodate 160 children and the school around 800 children each year, from the orphanage and locations surrounding Imuhira Iwacu Village and beyond. Currently, the school is providing education to 450 children.
To finish the construction of this orphanage and school, we need the help of friends and friends of friends.
